Obies Ceremony Celebrates Departing Village Voice Theater Critic:

The newspaper’s firing of Michael Feingold drew remarks from the stage but no loud protest at the annual event honoring Off Broadway and Off Off Broadway theater.

“No matter how passionately you feel about my employment situation, if you want to do something creative about that, find me a job or start a newspaper or e-mail me tomorrow,” Mr. Feingold said. “But tonight is about celebrating the wonderful things that have happened in the theater.”

He added: “We don’t want to spoil that by having a lot of crabbing and crimping about what just happened to me” and then thanked his soon-to-be-ex-employers for “throwing me the biggest and most amazing retirement party – which I’m probably entitled to, having written there for 42 years.”

RSC and Google team up for online Midsummer Night's Dream:

The RSC has partnered with Google for the project, called Midsummer Night’s Dreaming, in which Shakespeare’s fanciful play will unfold in real time. The production will use a number of online formats, from live-streaming to written blogs, all shared through the social network Google+ over the Midsummer weekend, from 21 June.

Artistic director Gregory Doran will direct a group of actors over three days, during which the young lovers Lysander and Hermia will actually elope, leaving a trail of digital media behind them. The RSC has also commissioned a number of artists to report and respond to the main plot online in the guise of new characters – such as Bottom’s rival the evil weaver and Mrs Snug – who will spend the weekend stitching her husband’s lion costumes together. Audiences will be able to interact with these characters through Google+.
